Abstract Balance impairment in patient with Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is the relevant factor contributing to the risk of falls, infection, and amputations. Some studies on DPN have focused on comparing static balance between individuals with and without DPN. Some other studies indicated static balance to be a crucial characteristic of DPN. However, there has not been identified the direct relationship between static balance and dynamic balance in DPN. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between static and dynamic balance in individuals with DPN. A total of 44 volunteers with diabetes type 2, aged between 60–75 years with a Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) score exceeding 2, were enlisted for participation in this study. Outcomes represented for balance were using the Biodex balance system, the Modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction in Balance (MCTSI B), and The Mini-Balance Evaluation System Test (Mini-BESS Test) representing static and dynamic balance respectively. Person’s correlation showed moderate negative correlation between the Eye open firm (r = -0.570, p < 0.001), Eye close firm (r = -0.672, p < 0.001), Eye open foam (r = -0.578, p < 0.001), Eye close foam (r = -0.682, p < 0.001) and average (r = -0.701, p < 0.001). Based on the current findings, the static balance seems to be associated with the dynamic balance test. This investigation demonstrates a correlation between static balance and dynamic balance may be inferred that individuals afflicted with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN), experiencing balance impairments during stationary posture, are likely to encounter similar challenges during locomotion. This suggests that the static balance should be separate from dynamic balance for the benefits of testing and training in people with DPN.
